Westside Leadership Institute

WLI_2010_class 

History: The Westside Leadership Institute (WLI) started in 2004 as a leadership development course for Salt Lake City's west side residents. There are 169 graduates from the program who are currently involved in their communities.                                                        

Mission: WLI's purpose is to assist residents in discovering their capabilities and furthermore making positive changes in the community.

Classes: Classes are generally held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Classes are held at the NeighborWorks Salt Lake office at 622 West 500 North in Salt Lake City. Classes are offered in English and Spanish.

Program: Under the support of faculty members from the University of Utah and NeighborWorks Salt Lake staff, WLI participants will develop the following skills:

 

  • Managing a Meeting
  • Engaging/informing community 
  • Engaging local government
  • Grant writing
  • Improving team work in a group
  • Identifying community issues
  • Addressing community issues
  • Celebrating the success of community efforts
  •
