Community Based Economic Development

A partnership between local business and residents to enhance the economic structure of Salt Lake City's Westside neighborhoods.

Commercial and economic development is vital to providing services for residents. NeighborWorks® Salt Lake is working diligently with local businesses to overcome the lack of retail services and low tax-base that traditionally contribute to blight of neighborhoods.

economic1 The Westside Alliance (WSA) facilitates partnerships to revitalize commercial blight and implement economic development strategies to build the tax base of Salt Lake City's Westside. The primary service area includes Salt Lake City’s Westside from 300 West to the Airport, from 900 South to the southern Davis County line.

The Westside Alliance was created to reverse the decline of the commercial corridor of northwest Salt Lake City. The WSA selects commercial nodes based on their economic need, condition, and capacity of retail stock, and commitment from business owners and area residents to assist in revitalizing their community.

wsalliance The WSA focuses on addressing the negative perception of the westside through positive marketing techniques such as banners along North Temple, business directories, and street festivals that promote neighborhood businesses and create collaborations amongst business owners to strengthen their customer base support.
