YouthWorks Presents “Culture Glow”
Teens in youth pre-employment & leadership development program plan event to illuminate the cultural diversity of Salt Lake City
SALT LAKE CITY, UT - Enjoy Glow in the Dark activities? Delicious food? Live performances? NeighborWorks Salt Lake’s YouthWorks crew has organized this event to illuminate the cultural diversity of Salt Lake City through fun, food, and performances. Join us Friday, May 31st from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Sugar Space Arts Warehouse (132 S 800 W) for Culture Glow.
NeighborWorks Salt Lake is a local nonprofit organization with a mission to build on the strengths of neighborhoods, creating opportunities through housing, resident leadership, and youth and economic development. NeighborWorks works in partnership with residents, government, and businesses to build and sustain neighborhoods of choice.
YouthWorks is NeighborWorks Salt Lake’s community-based pre-employment and leadership development program for high school students ages 14-18. Participants learn life and employment skills such as budgeting, construction, public speaking, and event planning while earning a bi-weekly stipend of $200. Additionally, YouthWorks strengthens the ties that the youth have with our community through community service projects.
NeighborWorks’ current YouthWorks Spring Crew has been planning Culture Glow for the last 10 weeks. Given $1,000 and broad parameters to design an awareness or cultural event, the crew of seven teens lead by Hope Nizhoni created and organized Culture Glow.
The entrance fee is $2 and gets you into a “Glow in the Dark” room featuring glow in the dark face painting, glow in the dark bubbles, bowling, twister, and a Polaroid photo booth and access to live performances and food trucks. Food trucks will feature Comfort Bowl, The Blue Bird Stand, and Komrades. Comfort Bowl is donating a portion of its proceeds from the event back to the YouthWorks program. Live cultural performances will include dances and songs that celebrate Pacific Islander, Native American, and Central American cultures.
This event is organized by YouthWorks Salt Lake at NeighborWorks Salt Lake with support from NeighborWorks America and NeighborWorks Week as well as the Salt Lake City's Mayor's Office ACE grant fund.
