POSITION TITLE: Community Outreach Coordinator

COMPENSATION:

Hourly, $20.00–$22.00 per hour based on experience
Full-time, Monday–Thursday, 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM, on-site
(During fall and spring, hours may flex to support evening programming up to 7:30 PM.)

POSITION OVERVIEW:

NeighborWorks Salt Lake is seeking a mission-driven, relationship-oriented Community Outreach Coordinator to strengthen neighborhood engagement on Salt Lake City’s Westside. This role increases resident participation, supports signature community events, builds volunteer capacity, and amplifies the organization’s presence and services.

This position directly supports the Westside Leadership Institute (WLI); Paint Your Heart Out; NeighborWorks Week; Rake Your Heart Out; Annual Celebration; and other community events.

The Community Outreach Coordinator also works closely with the YouthWorks Program Coordinator and will occasionally support youth-related outreach, presentations, and special events.

SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Full-time, Monday–Thursday, 7:30 AM–6:00 PM

  • Flexibility required during fall/spring for some evening programming

  • Occasional weekends required for community events, tabling opportunities, outreach fairs, and signature projects where sharing NWSL services with residents is essential

  • Hours may flex to maintain a 40-hour work week

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Outreach & Relationship Building

  •  Develop trusting relationships with residents, neighborhood groups, community leaders, schools, and partner organizations.

  • Conduct outreach through one-on-one interactions, community presentations, workshops, social media engagement, and tabling at events.

  • Maintain the staff sign-up sheet for Community Council attendance and ensure NWSL staff are scheduled, reminded, and documented for participation in local council meetings.

  • Gather community input and elevate feedback to inform program development.

  • Serve as an approachable, professional representative of NeighborWorks at public meetings and community gatherings.

 Program Support: Westside Leadership Institute (WLI)

  •  Assist with recruitment, promotion, and community presentations for WLI programs.

  • Support class operations—attendance, room setup, materials, participant communication.

  • Help coordinate WLI orientations, workshops, and cohort celebrations.

 Signature Events & Special Projects

  •  Provide planning and on-site support for major NWSL events, including:

    • Paint Your Heart Out (PYHO)

    • NeighborWorks Week

    • Annual Celebration

    • Rake Your Heart Out (RYHO)

    • Leadership/Neighborhood workshops, cleanups, and resource fairs

  • Coordinate logistics such as supplies, volunteer assignments, schedules, and event setup/teardown.

  • Attend occasional weekend events and tabling opportunities to share NWSL services and engage new residents and partners.

 Volunteer Coordination

  •  Recruit, schedule, and manage volunteers for community projects and events.

  • Maintain volunteer databases, track volunteer hours, and communicate with volunteer teams.

  • Lead volunteer orientations, trainings, and on-site supervision.

  • Create meaningful volunteer experiences that build long-term community participation.

 Resident & Customer Engagement

  •  Provide information to residents, answer questions, and connect individuals to NWSL programs and community resources.

  • Conduct follow-up calls, coordinate referrals, and document resident interactions.

  • Maintain excellent customer service and consistent communication.

 Communications & Outreach Materials

  •  Assist in the development of flyers, newsletters, social media content, and event promotions.

  • Support staff with talking points, outreach summaries, and partner communication materials.

 Data Tracking, Reporting & Administration

  •  Track engagement metrics, volunteer participation, and event data.

  • Maintain organized documentation using platforms such as Salesforce or Asana.

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and grant-related reports as needed.

 Occasional YouthWorks Support

  •  Assist with YouthWorks recruitment, presentations, and school outreach.

  • Support youth workshops, service events, celebrations, and large program days.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  •  Experience managing volunteers is highly desired.

  • Strong multitasking ability and comfort handling several projects simultaneously.

  • Passion for community work and resident empowerment strongly preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse community members.

  • Experience facilitating or supporting community meetings, workshops, or public presentations.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce, Asana, or similar platforms preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable vehicle.

  • Ability to pass a background check (required).

 Education & Experience:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Urban Studies/Planning, Communications, or a similar discipline.

  • OR equivalent professional experience (typically 2–4 years) in community outreach, volunteer coordination, nonprofit programming, resident engagement, or related fields.
